February 2007 - Present Current TV, Sky 193 / Virgin 155

  • Position: Staff Producer / Director
  • Production: A wide variety of documentaries as the senior member of the Original Production Department.
  • Significant Productions: During my time at Current TV I have worked on a variety of factual content, from political
news pieces to comic presenter led journeys. A sample of some projects:

  • Seduction School is a one-off authored documentary following an unsuccessful Casanova as he attends a unique and bizarre
course that promises to teach frustrated men the science of seducing women. How To Build A Superpower is a series of
polemics examining the building blocks of becoming a global power. Working with writer and broadcaster John Harris I
explored in four separate episodes how a country’s culture, economy, military and political strength are all key facets in
becoming a superpower. This was part of a wider programming stunt running over four nights examining the world’s rising
and declining superpowers. I also wrote and directed the studio links. Current Confessions is a long running series of short
comic programmes. Using candid and stylistic interviews the series explores the experiences and opinions of a wide variety
of young people on subjects such as marriage and sexual fantasies. Current at the Fringe is a magazine show coming weekly
from the Edinburgh Festival. Broadcasting on a Friday night the shows explore the colour and variety of the world’s largest
arts festival. The episodes involved large-scale field production and tight scheduling deadlines. Flawed Laws is a comic
presenter led film exploring some of the ridiculous and out-dated laws still on the statute books. Broadcaster Thomas Arnold
explores, enforces and deliberately breaks some strange and theoretically enforceable British laws. One example is the fact
that it is still illegal to sell baskets in the City of London, Thomas goes under cover to root out the basket pushers. As well as
producing and directing the show I also wrote the programme.

The process involved: producing, directing, writing and editing, and generating and developing ideas. I managed large freelance
crews and one permanent AP and worked closely with other departments including scheduling and marketing. I commissioned
graphics and animation and worked to broadcast deadlines. I managed yearly and special project budgets.
